Manhattan features a
networked mode that allows you to collaborate in realtime with other
users and work collectively on pieces. The pieces are stored privately
and securely in an online database, which coordinates and communicates
the edits of each collaborator.
To create or join a shared work, you must register a username and password (see the toolbar above).
- Collaboration supports up to four users working on a single shared piece of music. Any changes to the piece (made by either a user or formulas in the pattern) are instantly shared with your collaborators, and applied to their copies in realtime.
- You can also see where other connected users are in the pattern, and chat with your collaborators to coordinate your work. Their cursors will be visible in your pattern, using different colours.
- Only the notation is shared; audio playback is local and independent. During playback, Manhattan will delay applying or sending changes, to ensure your patterns and formulas play as you expect, without unexpected interference from remote edits.
- The channel mute settings are also not shared, to enable you to mute parts that others are working on.
How you use the networking feature is up to you: collaborate, observe, tutor, or even compete.
